COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Focuses on underlying concepts of data communications, telecommunications and networking. Emphasizes the terminology and technologies in current networking environments and provides a general overview of the field of networking as a basis for continued study in the field.

COURSE COMPETENCIES:

  1. Determine how networks are used and examine network configurations
  2. Apply the OSI model to communicate between two systems
  3. Recognize Networking Standards and Organizations that enforce the standardization
  4. Understand Network Protocols and installation
  5. Develop a working understanding of Transmission Basics
  6. Understand the overview and basic configuration of the various Physical and Logical Topologies utilized within networking
  7. Understand the overview of the hardware components of a network
  8. Explore the aspects of remote connectivity

CLASS MEETING REQUIREMENT:

Students are expected to attend all sessions of each course in which they enrol. When circumstances make regular attendance impossible, students should report such absences to the instructor as soon as possible and make up assignments as the instructor requires. The instructor has the option of setting guidelines for attendance in determining grades. However, each instructor shall inform students verbally and/or in writing of his/her specific attendance requirements and students have the responsibility for knowing the attendance policy. All class sessions will be held in order to meet credit and contact hour requirements. Class cancellations will be made-up at the convenience of the instructor and students.
